Sleep cycle and cancer
Melatonin has important functions in regulating cell and sleep cycle. Then understanding its functions is important for cancer studies.
Therefore, I wanted to share the writing at http://www.citynews.ca/news/news_20359.aspx with you. It is so nice and important.
It’s a frustrating time of year. After almost six months of winter gloom, you’re going to get an hour more daylight when the clocks go ahead this weekend. But you’re also going to lose something equally precious - an hour’s worth of sleep.
Cancer & Cancer therapy
Cancer is a term for diseases in which abnormal cells divide without control and can invade other tissues. Cancer cells can spread to other parts of the body through the blood and lymph systems.
Cancer is not just one disease but many diseases. There are more than 100 different types of cancer. The main categories of cancer include:
Carcinoma - cancer that begins in the skin or in tissues that line or cover internal organs
Sarcoma - cancer that begins in bone, cartilage, fat, muscle, blood vessels, or other connective or supportive tissue
Leukemia - cancer that starts in blood-forming tissue such as the bone marrow and causes large numbers of abnormal blood cells to be produced and enter the blood
Lymphoma and myeloma - cancers that begin in the cells of the immune system
Molecular Structure
Molecular Structure
The physical and chemical behavior of molecules is largely determined by their constitution (the type and number of the atoms they contain and their bonding). Structural formulas can therefore be used to predict not only the chemical reactivity of a molecule, but also its size and shape, and to some extent its conformation (the spatial arrangement of the atoms). Some data providing the basis for such predictions are summarized here. In addition, L-dihy- L-dopa, droxyphenylalanine is used as an example to show the way in which molecules are illustrated.
